Is a Uk licence valid in BC?

Is a Uk licence valid in BC?
I have been in touch with a Vancouver training company to try and find out if my UK commercial licences are valid in BC, this is the reply I got. Can anyone confirm this or contradict it?
"I just heard from one of our local ICBC Driving Examiners and the news is that your licenses in Scotland are not transferable to a BC license. You would have to take a Drivers course, an Air Brake Certification Course and a medical exam. The Superintendent of Motor Vehicles requires all new commercial drivers to have a medical exam. You would also have to have a BC address before you could apply of a commercial license."

a hgv l uk licence means nothing over here ,you need to resit the tests again...including air brake test,medical, writen tests
