Default UK Dividends on Tax Return

I tried to search but it didn't provide the answer I am looking for.

It looks like the most effective position is to be to liquidate all of my UK holdings and then take advantage of Canadian dividend tax credit, TFSA for tax free etc before I consider investing any further in UK dividend paying equities.

However no doubt I will hold a few for a while longer so when the time comes how would I report the UK dividend.

For example I recieve a £90 dividend. Do I take into account the UK credit and report it as £100?

Obviously figured would be reported in CAD.

Thanks for your help

Yes. And you can claim the £10 as a credit against Canadian taxes owing. However, keep proof of the tax withheld in the UK as foreign tax credits are a favourite target of CRA reviews.

It is not the most tax-efficient way of investing money. Dividends from Canadian corporations get much more favourable tax treatment.
