I have been getting a price from Cunard for a cruise from southampton to New York on the Queen Mary 6 Nights with our dogs So the lovely chap on the other end of the phone said before he can give me a price i need to measure the dogs tip off nose to tip of tail and standing paws on floor to top of head, have you ever tried to measure large dogs on your own not easy, they think you are playing running round in circles haha and my arms aren't long enough to reach from one end to the other you get the picture,
OK so i am a l little crasy

My parents videoed all of the 'Wickers World' programmes - he did a series on board the QE2 inthe 80's (I wasn't on it then, but was working on it when it was shown on TV).
There were 2 of us working in the kennels - it was known as 'Doggie Deck' - there was even an old fashioned lamppost complete with a piece of artificial grass round it Wish I could put the pics on here - thinking about it maybe not - 80's fashions & hair do's
Hope you get everything sorted - I think it's a great way to travel to Canada
Oh, forgot to ask - what sort of dogs do you have & how many?

We used to go up to check on them in the evening before going to bed just to make sure all was well with them. One lady who was travelling alone who was taking her pug to the UK spent most of her days with us up in the kennels as she wanted to spend most of her time with her dog - really nice of her, but spending what I imagine would have been a lot of money to travel on the QE2 & then spend nearly the whole time in the kennels!
As for sea sickness, didn't seem to be a problem.

I'd love to cruise across. And as i have my own personal flight budget as well as shipping costs (i'm going sans container), and snake-flight to play with it may just be an option.
Hmm. If anyone does, let us know how ti goes?

The QM2 is a pretty big ship, but it's tough to get lost
One tip: get to one of the laundry rooms early once you've sailed if you have anything to iron for the first night's dinner - everyone seems to have the same idea about half an hour before first sitting (yes, that was us).
And you won't get bored - there's way too much to do. The guest lectures and stuff when we crossed were just brilliant. Plus all the shows, the theatre, the food, the classes, the library, the health club, the food, the casino, the bars, the computer room, the food, and so on.

They [U.S. tourist visas] still exist, and are still required if you do not have a machine readable passport.
The visa waver program is only for people who will spend 90 days or less in the US as a tourist or for business purposes. I guess you would need to persuade the officer that your trip from NY to the Canadian border was a vacation. *
Of course, even if you have a visa they still don't HAVE to let you in. I am sure that 99.9% (approximately) of the time this will not be the slightest problem.
[Edit]* The Dept. of State's website says that transit through the US is normally permitted.

In order to use the visa-waiver scheme it is mandatory to have a return or onward ticket if entering the United States by sea or air.
If your plan is to enter the U.S. and then leave over the land frontier, then you need a U.S. tourist visa. Unless you have a Canadian or Bermuda passport (different rules).
