Default UK to Canada movers

Hi All,

I am moving to Calgary in August this year but struggling to find a well reviewed mover (end to end). Does anyone have any recommendations?

thanks!

Hi, welcome to BE.

A quick search of the forum will bring up lots of relevant threads with reviews on, that's the best place to start.

HTH, good luck.

I did a search and most threads seem a bit older - just wondering if anyone has had any experience in the past year or two.

There are lots from within the past year - search for 'shipping' or 'removals', 'movers' may not bring much up.

HTH.

Try the British Association of Removers website for reviews. https://bar.co.uk/home/find-a-remover/
Their directory combines listing of local certified members with reviews from previous customers. Once you've searched by postcode/town/country you can then use the 'moving overseas' filter to shorten the list to just qualified international movers.
Hope that helps? there are lots of other tips on choosing a moving company over on our British Expats Overseas Removals advice partner forum.

We are using White & Company - so far so good although we are just leaving the UK this week so I can't say how good they are at the other end yet! The guy who came round to do our quote gave us some slightly dud info but it was all clarified easily when we got the main quote and agreement. Our stuff was packed up very efficiently and quickly and we got some good advice about the paperwork etc.

Hi we used Dorree Bonner we are waiting for our goods at the minute but the UK side of things went well and was well organised. We got 3 quotes and theirs was the best, not price wise but most professional and informative. We hope to have our goods by Friday so will let you know how it goes this end.

We used Anglo Pacific last year to move from UK to Ontario. They were terrific and the cost wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Looking back I actually wish I'd shipped more and not been so keen to sell/throw stuff out.

How much did it cost you just out of curiosity?

We wouldn't need to move any furniture or anything. Just the bulk of our clothes and personal effects really. The important thing is that we would need temporary storage as well though until we find a fixed address in Canada.

Our needs were similar, we shipped about 23 x 5 cu ft boxes and had them make solid wooden boxes for 3 large paintings and a 46" TV and the total door to door came in at about £850. We had a place to move it into so haven't looked into storage at all, but my gut feeling if I had to do that would be to rent my own storage locker and have them deliver it to that. All the paper work and regulatory stuff for international shipping and customs and duties and so on can be a bit much and I'd just want all of that done and dusted and my stuff in a place where I could get it whenever I wanted ASAP. Once you've done that you can rent a Home Depot van for $25 and move it wherever/whenever you want.

We used Anglo Pacific twice. They were great. We didn't move furniture. Everything went smoothly. Very reasonable and much cheaper than other quotes.

Thanks, that's super helpful. We won't be shipping anything like that since my TV is buggered and we want a new 4k HDR model but I'm just holding off on buying a new one until we reach Canada atm.

We will need temporary storage though, ideally in Canada I think and we will also need delivery once we move into a long term address since neither of us drive.

Fantastic, thank you. I just need to figure out how many boxes we'll be taking and then I'll get a few quotes I think.

My son flew most of his non-furniture goods ( about 25 boxes including his extensive record collection ) by air cargo through Air Transat. It was quite reasonable on cost - it worked out cheaper than shipping by sea. We just went to the airport to clear through customs (goods to follow list in hand) and then collected from the cargo department at Toronto Airport. No good unless you (or a friend) can drive a truck/van (which can be hired for $19.99 from Uhaul) and rent a storage facility though.

Thanks, that would be ideal but unfortunately probably wouldn't work in our case sadly.
