Default U.K. Police Clearance while in Canada

So I have taken up a new job in Canada I have to provide Police clearance for every country outside Canada where I have lived in the last 10 years.

Does anyone know how to go about UK Police clearance from here?

https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

If your ACRO Police Check comes back with 'No Live Trace' or any police/criminal record, you will have to obtain the details of the Record.

'No Trace' means there is no Police Record for you (ie you've never been arrested)

'No Live Trace' means you have a Police Record that isn't recent in UK terms.

We had to do this for PR. Had to have our fingerprints taken...then fill in the online form. The report was back within the week.

EDIT: My husband tells me we didn't have to send fingerprints to the UK. The online form was completed and sent electronically.

I did it for my PR too (except the fingerprints part). But I am not sure if its the ACRO check that I have to do or this one: https://www.disclosureservices.com/p...reau-crb-check

That would be a 'CRB Check' and not a 'Police Check' though....

You don't get fingerprinted for UK certificates usually. I think the FBI ones need fingerprints though don't they?

Correct...none for the UK but we had to provide them for Canada and US (FBI). It took 3 months to receive the FBI report.

Yeah, the three month thing is crazy. you can now use a "channeller", ie; third party, to get the FBI report, and that does speed things up. I think it was perhaps two weeks, perhaps less for them to send an electronic copy of the report. We did also request a printed version too, just to be on the safe side.

Wished we had known about that. It could have speeded our PR up by 10 weeks.

As withabix says, you need the ACPO check. The Disclosure one - CRB - is only for UK employees working in sensitive situations such as with young or vulnerable people. I believe it can only be applied for by the employer. I had one for my volunteer ambulance driver job , but I was sent a copy of it.
It states on it that it is not valid for immigration or visa purposes.

DBS checks are for employment within the UK.
For migration to Canada you need an ACRO check. If asked for a UK police check for a job within Canada you either need a ACRO check or a Subject Access check.

I think it's fairly recent (quick edit, looks like Jan 2015 CIC started to allow it) and I think it's the CIC that opened things up. I believe you could use a channeller to get the FBI report, but the CIC previously would not accept a report via a channeller, but now they do.

When we found out the wait time for the FBI report, we did wonder if it'd have made sense to simply get one once you enter the EE pool, then the flip side is, if it's only valid for a certain period of time, and you don't get AIP in that time, you're stuffed. But if you get AIP and have only X days to submit (think it's increased recently though), then you have to try and get a report that could take longer than the allotted time.

I think they have a process for dealing with that don't they. Like some countries (e.g. Japan and NZ) will only issue a certificate if another government requests it so you can't even kick start the process until you have a letter of request from the CIC. In those cases you just add a placeholder document to the application.

We applied mid August 2016...received mid November 2016. CIC allow 90 days...we were right on the 90 days.

Earlier in the year the CBSA agent at the US/Canada border told us our sponsor had been approved and that our application was under way. Our daughter said to apply for the FBI report then...but we decided to wait until we requested by CIC.

It's a bit of a silly system really because I've heard that certificates from some jurisdictions can take longer however the general rule of thumb is not to procure one until you have an ITA because the damn things expire so quickly.
