Default TWP and one-way ticket

I booked a one-way ticket Gatwick to Toronto with Air Transat (Canadian Affair). I have a TWP valid until 2014.

The small print in the confirmation e-mail worries me somewhat:

"If you are travelling on a one way ticket you must have either a correct entry visa, a return ticket or a Canadian passport."

A TWP is not a visa. It explicitly states "not valid for re-entry".

Has anyone on a TWP flown Air Transat with a one-way ticket before?

TWP should be fine. At the end of the day it is up to how much the carrier understands the different permits.

We did three years ago, they looked over our paper work, wished us good luck, and let us check in.

Thanks folks! I'm willing to bet a good deal of money that if I call them and ask, they'll just say no. So I'll just have to take the risk.

I supposs I could always buy a return leg on the spot if things turn sour, "only" 160 pounds with. Air transat. Anyone ever done that?

Miss Clinique, did you have one of these 'origami' twps stapled to your passport, or was there any other paperwork, like visas or confirmation letters?

We've just booked our one way tickets on a TWP....

I think I asked FL and he said it would be fine....

It's nothing that can't be sorted out at the airport as long as you have a credit card is it?

Good luck!

Added as I forgot - there is an article in the wiki that states what you need at POE

Correct. A TWP is not a visa. You travel on your passport and contrary to popular myth, Canada does not mandate a return ticket in order to use a foreign passport as an entry document.

With Air Canada you wouldn't have any problems. With a charter airline, who normally are only carrying tourists, there may well be a greater risk of a problem. Perhaps get in touch with someone in authority at Air Transat and get them to agree (in writing) that a valid foreign passport is enough.

While you do that, look at the terms and conditions of your travel. If you only have to meet the legal requirements, then passport is ok and they should be able to understand this. If on the other hand, Air Transat have discretion to impose additional documentary requirements, you may have a problem. Of course, the time to have had this discussion with Air Transat was before you booked a ticket, so perhaps look to see if you have the right to cancel.

Not necessarily correct.

All airlines put their terms of carriage in writing. Doubtful they would write to one passenger with anything but referring them to the terms of carriage. Interpretation is up to the check in clerk and their supervisor at the airport when you check in and the pilot at the gate, if a pax becomes unruly or difficult boarding may be refused.

+1.

Haven't had any problems with this, you are a legal resident of Canada for as long as your permit remains valid.

We didn't have the TWP we got it at POE, we had the LMO, letter of employment, copies of all the emails, between us and employer, plus the file containing all the things we had started to gather for PR.

PM me if I can help further.

I doubt they would if you have a new TWP. But if they do, say "Why, I'm going home, of course". <straight face obligatory>.

Many years ago we went back to the UK from California for a visit about three month before my J-1 visa was due to expire. I was asked what I'd be doing after that and I stupidly said that I'd likely be applying for a Green Card.

We ended up in front of an Immigration Judge.

No. All they were concerned about was the fact that we had the correct paper work to gain entry, and they wouldnt be held responsible for us. The lady was very thorough, she just wanted to make sure they didnt get fined.

If you have a valid TWP then a one way ticket should be fine. What about people who are issued TWPs for 3 years have you ever tried booking a return flight 3 years forward? The TWP shows you have legal status and you are not considered as a PR so your passport will suffice for identity purposes.
