Hi
I have a friend who has a SOWP.
The family has just had the request for medicals.
Is he permitted to work as a private tutor before PR? (his wife is Italian and he speaks and writes perfect Italian) and he used to be a teacher in England.
Thanks

To the OP, tell him to check his SOWP and see if there is a condition on it that states he cannot work with children, in a medical facility etc. If it is on there, then he won't be able to tutor children until he has had medical clearance and applied for the condition to be removed - though he could work with adults. If he wants to work with children it will mean getting a new SOWP at the border (or online) which he could do once he has undergone the medical and has proof - he should wait about 3 weeks after the medical has been submitted and check ECAS to see if it is attached to his UCI number, so that the border official (or CIC) will know that he has had it done and is cleared, before applying for a new SOWP with the condition removed.

I thought SOWP specified you aren't permitted to work in (can't remember the exact words) schools, healthcare and something else? tutoring would be done at someone else's house tho.
What Novo said. Hence why I am asking.
So he could work with adults but not children until PR?

Jobs that bring you into close contact with people, such as:
workers in the health sciences field
clinical laboratory workers
patient attendants in nursing and geriatric homes
medical students admitted to Canada to attend university
medical electives and physicians on short-term locums
teachers of primary or secondary schools, or other teachers of small children
domestics
workers who give in-home care to children, the elderly and the disabled
day nursery employees and
other similar jobs
He can teach adults but not children, though once he has had his medical he can wait about 3 weeks then apply for the condition to be removed (thus allowing him to tutor children as well).

Yes, he can take his original SOWP to the border and request one with the conditions removed. He will have to take the same documentation as originally plus a copy of his proof of medical. (It's called an 'up front' medical).
Do get him to check his ECAS to make sure it says 'medical received' before he attempts to change his SOWP.

So why do people keep turning up at my airport who are already in Canada and asking if they can have their visitor record, work/study permit extended or do their landing as they now have their COPR forms and a host of other CIC related shit

Just my way of ranting at CIC for shoving more of their work on us as if we aren't busy enough with our own work plus the Port of Entry stuff we now have to do when this used to be done by CIC hence a few grumpy border officers

Oh and we didn't get extra money for taking on these duties
