Truck driving courses ?
 
Hi I am looking to move to Canada and try truck driving .I am a bus driver in the UK. Where is the best city to get my licence and to work ? . I have lived in nova scotia before and I quite liked it.How much is the average truck driver course ? Any advise will be appreciated .

Can you clarify, do you already have a visa? As you won't get sponsored as a trucker without any work experience and from your previous threads you no longer have PR. The Wiki article on trucking will tell you but I think you need a minimum of 3 years class 1 experience?

If you want to move to Canada and don't have another visa already, I think you'll need to find another route.

I personally know a truck driver who came to MB on a temporary work permit. Things weren't working out for him so he went back to UK. After some time working there he came back to MB not with à TWP but a open work permit, I was surprised myself.

Perhaps worth bearing in mind that there is a growing shortage of truck drivers and it's going to get worse. The existing drivers are getting older and young people don't seem to want to get into it.

I've seen news reports that companies are suffering because they have the trucks but nobody to drive them.

I have been truck driving in Canada since I came over in 2007 and there has always been a shortage of drivers. Some say there is not a shortage only that companies wont pay and drivers would rather do other jobs than be on the road for weeks at a time and not get paid for work they do. I myself have had enough of working 14hr days and will be getting out in the near future.

So many industries are suffering the same fate.
While truck driver training is available in every city and there’s always adverts for truck drivers wanted the applications for those positions are full of newly qualified immigrants.

Companies are reluctant to hire not only new LP qualified but also new immigrants and the statistics support their model.

So many fatal highway crashes involving trucks and then comparing the other factors the employers simply won’t take on newly qualified drivers

but who wants 12 to 14 hour days with pressures to fiddle log books and be away from home for two to three weeks at a time to earn what equates to not much more than minimum wage - not me !!!

This in a nutshell. Far too many companies that treat people like shit, pay as little as they can get away with, culture of very long and anti social hours. Yep its no wonder they cant fill the jobs.

What I find interesting is that when an experienced driver with an excellent CV, references and a varied background in the industry applies for a job you are offered the minimum wages, vacation, seniority BS as if your license is still wet.
