Re: Transporting dog

Hi Angela,
was there any other charges on top of this for cages or extra handling charges either here or in Canada?

We're taking our 12 yr old Collie cross out with us and by the time a cage and handling at Calgary is added on it's nearly a £1000.
This is through Fly Zoom's Air freight contact with the ol' girl (the Collie before some smart Alex gets me into trouble) going on the same flight as us.

Thanks

Jim

No i'm not, however, just because you dont' appreciate my pet of choice does not mean that I don't.

I may not appreciate someone's screaming brats, slobbering dog or hissing kitten being on the same plane as me - but people who do (and I don't, I actually quite like dogs, cats, etc) usually dont' say much about it.

However, as I have a snake and htis is unusual, people seem to think its alright to comment on tehir dislike and even their joy at my problems. Doesnt' seem very neighbourly to me.

Would you act the same way with any other loved pet?

Hi Alvic,
If the above question was aimed at me, Nope, we're probably going out on the 23th of January, at last. However at the moment we are nervous about pre booking the flights until we're sure the money is in the bank from the house sale.

Won't know if the house sale money is "Paid" until the 11th of January. Just found out about 5 minutes ago that the contract has been signed (another "at last") by the buyer, but the lawyer warns us that in reality this still does not guarantee anything.

Regards

Jim
PS. it's a wonder we all don't end up will post traumatic stress, this is like being under fire for the last 3 years with a constant bombardment of pressure, hassle and emotions that this journey causes. And this is before we even get there.

Oh dear Caitilin...I seem to have offended you and I didn't mean any offence at all...it was nothing to do with appreciating your pet of choice, but the fact that I am such a baby and so scared of snakes, I would be terrified at the thought that someone could be on the same plane as me with a real live snake in their pocket. (No rude comments from the rest of you lot). And other animals dont fly in the main body of the plane - although as you say snakes do not anymore either.

Perhaps you have not been posting long enough on BE to know that the "smiliey" adds a sense of humour to a post.

Once again, sorry and I am surprised you have taken my post so crossly:o

Actually, no, you annoyed me. Slight difference. that said, you annoyed me as I thought you meant something different, for which I apologise. I jumped to a conclusion there, and that was wrong.

The only pets in the main body should be guide dogs.

The reason I jumped to the wrong conclusion is that I do get an awful lot of crap for my choice of pets ("you can't possibly love something that cold and slimy"..er..not cold, not slimy and yes you can; "Ewww, that's horrible" ..er, who are you to decide?" etc etc etc) and a lot of htat is taught behaviour and seen as socially acceptable as he's not a furbaby. That doesn't excuse my jumping to conclusions, mind you, that's to give an explanation as to 'why she did that'.

Forgive and forget?

We dont hold grudges on BE my dear....you know I would be one of those people who would say annoying things like that just because I hate snakes...so you have made me look at my own responses in a whole new light....just because I dont like them doesnt mean others shouldnt. So you have helped me out too:thumbsup:

Ps: Any good tips on how to get over a snake phobia seeing as I am going to live in a country where I could very well tread on one in my back yard...scary!

Not trying to hijack the thread, but can you still take live animals in the main body of the plane? I think at one time you could on internal flights if they were small cats or dogs...my dog is almost four stone, so unless we dress her up as a human and get her a passport, there's no hope...although her brother is a guide dog (nice for the lad to have a career) so maybe she could borrow his papers???

all the airlines i've checked so far only allow guide dogs...that would be air canada, transat, BA, zoom, tomas cook and a few others.

Hi Jim - from memory we paid 250 pounds for both dogs to fly, crates were about 100 pounds for two, vet bill for injections and fit to fly certificates about 100 pounds. We had to pay about $30 this end at the airport. Sorry I don't have the exact figures (and I don't have a pound key on my computer!). Checking in and collecting the dogs at the airports were really easy. We felt so much better having the dogs tavel with us rather than have them go missing for a couple of days whilst a company handled it. I think it was less stressful for the dogs too. Our old boy has just turned 16 and he coped really well with the whole thing. Hope this helps. Angela
