We used BA as well and they were great. You have to book the dog(s) in advance but once that is done just turn up to the check-out as normal and they will handle it from there. cost was reasonable a couple of years ago. I think about 350 pounds and that was from Edinburgh to Vancouver via London. We had the wrong crate size but staff at heathrow sorted everything out and we were never contacted about it, they just did what had to be done. Dog was fine on arrival and as most people have already pointed out, we probably worry and stress more than they do.

I don't think it's worth paying 10 times the price unless you have to.

The only other thing is to get the animal checked prior to the flight by the vet to get a clean bill of health and also get a pet passport as that will allow the dog re-entry into the Uk without Quarantine should things go pear shaped and you have to head back across.

Another vote for BA - they were very accommodating and helpful when we were making our plans. Like KWS, it was a couple of years ago when we shipped our dogs over and we arranged all the paperwork etc ourselves. The 2 dogs cost a little more than an adult fare did.

We flew our dogs over in May - lakeland terrier who is 12 and a border collie who have just turned 16. They travelled really well and we are so glad we bought them with us.

Can I ask who did you fly with, did you do it yourself ie. make arrangements of use a pet carrying company.

I am still unsure, I know it makes sense to let a company do it but it seems that the cost is excessively high for what I could do myself!

Ask yourself why it makes sense to pay for someone else to do what you're able to do yourself. The process isn't rocket science, and as you've found, once there's a middle man involved the cost gets silly.

I hit their website as i have a pet snake to go with me...
and can find neither a telephone number (Which, from ireland would be pretty dear anyway) nor an email address....

this probably doesn't help them in getting customers!

Hi

We're going to be taking over 5 dogs and a cat. We already have the crates for all the animals so that has saved us a bit of money! I spoke to Zoom who quoted me about £1800 for all 6 animals to fly on the same flight as us but when I looked at their flights they all go via Montreal therefore adds at least a couple of hours to the flight! I don't want them to spend any more time than necessary in the hold.;) I too have spoken to Leanne at Jets 4 Pets and have been quoted about £100 more for them to book us on with Air Transat (as we are no longer able to do this ourselves - everytime I ask AT they say they no longer do it!)
Leanne has been really helpful therefore I'd definitely recommend them. Obviously they don't do very much but as it's only going to be an extra £100 I don't mind!:)
I spoke to Air Canada and was quoted over £4000 :ohmy:

Caitilin I dont understnad how you couldn't find the telephone number or the email enquiriy address, they even have an online quote form. Are you sure you are looking at Jets4Pets website.

I contacted them by email and Leanne phoned me back quite quickly - she has been brilliant with me. When we phoned Zoom they told us we could not book the dogs with Zoom ourselves and gave me Jets4Pets contact details.

Give it another shot and see what happens - please dont fly the same route as me because I HATE snakes and would hate to do a re-run of Snakes on a Plane!!!!!!!!:eek:

I agree R I C H, it isn't rocket science but it seems that the rules have changed somewhat since some of the members booked direct.

I have now phoned a few airlines and were told one has to book via a pet carrying company:curse:

I haven't forgotten that I promised to speak to our friends who brought their dog over in August and did all the arrangements themselves.

AS i work in IT all I an assume is that something wasn't loading up right..as there were no links on the site at all. LOL, not usually that incompetent ;-)

I'll definitely try and see that I don't travel teh same route, but my baby is a) little (he fits in the palm of my hand, curled up and i wear size S gloves), non-venemous, and did I mention cute?

He's also very very shy..i'm worried about him traveling with all the noises and people gandering.

I swear it wasn't this hard when we took him from the US to holland...in 98.

I mean, yeah, i'm in ireland but each time i've made it clear i'm happy to bring him to the UK for transport, i'll probably end up flying out of london or manchester anyway, depending on airline. I can get him to the UK no problem.

We did it ourselves - never considered paying a company to do it. Booked the dogs on the same flight as us with Air Transat so they flew with us which was very reassuring. We had to buy crates and get the fit to fly certificates but it probably cost in total about 400 to 500 pounds to get both of them here which was well worth it. It was all very easy - we even bought someone elses dog with us as they were already in Canada and were having problems getting her out here. If you need any info, let me know. Angela
