What is the job market like for train drivers/ crew dispatcher? My hub is chatting to bombardier at the moment but I think putting feelers out is a good plan Incase all falls through.

CP Rail and CN Rail are the 2 x biggest employers in that specific area.
Burlington Northern and Omnitrax are smaller players.
Bombardier makes the trains for domestic and overseas market as opposed to providing rail services though Im sure they have test drivers etc.

Thanks for reply. The jobs he was talking to bombardier aren't passenger jobs although he said even here when he's driving he doesn't deal with passengers that's down to conductors etc.. They make the trains he's familiar with so it's a plus I guess? Have looked at CN and sent off application. My way of thinking is more applications sent more chances of a yes??

Here you go - they are called Locomotive Engineers or Train Crew Engineers or Railway and yard locomotive engineers here.

The chances of getting a job with CP, CN or Via as an engineer are very very slim. There are many young people here and who already work form them lining up for the jobs. One would have to do time as a conductor for possibly years before getting a seat up front.
