Trade Unions

Re: Trade Unions
I have a co-worker in my 'closed shop' whose faith is Menonite.
He is pacifist and union membership and striking is considered 'direct action' and therefore against his religous views. Therefore he is exempt from union membership but still has to pay the equivalent of his dues to a mutually agreeable charity, ie. not his own church.

I've no idea though why Mennonites would think that union membership violates pacifist beliefs.
