Toronto's indeed a fun city, but you have to appreciate it as itself - a city on the Great Lakes in the most populated/developed/industrialized/suburban-sprawly part of Canada, and not a place in England.
It will never replicate England, so as long as you can appreciate it as such, you'll be okay.

What you have written could have been written by me about Alberta and how I feel about the Toronto/Ontario weather

We are also looking at moving Province in a couple of years and OH fell in love with Southern Ontario - primarily Niagara on the Lake area but not limited to there. We are hoping to go out at Spring Break - I know what Spring Break weather is like in Alberta, I'm interested in Ontario weather, I want to move to a shorter winter area
Also on our places to spend some time checking is St Catherines - OH has a possible business opportunity there already.
Hah! It'll be interesting to see where we both end up

Is Alberta basically 2 seasons?Niagara on the Lake looks too far out of Toronto on the map. Not sure what buses or trains are like from there?
We could end up neighbours

Yes Alberta is just two seasons - Snow and Mosquito.
We've already had several frosty nights and flurries are mentioned in every forecast from Oct 1st until April 1st, we might not get them but they are mentioned just in case
I am feeling wary and I suppose weary at the thought of the upcoming season. Last winter affected my husband really badly, which in turn affected me, which has led to the decision to move at some point in the not too distant future. Red Deer has only got something like 100 frost free days a year.

like the way they mention it 'just in case'.Winter affects me badly, I get quite depressed. Hubby actually doesn't mind the cold and snow and of course the kids love it!
NS is fairly mild I guess compared to Alberta. Being near the sea keeps it more temperate.
Lets see what happens
