Toronto Landing Experience
Went to initial passport check. The person checked our UK passports and asked if we were on holiday, I said no and presented the visa papers. After a cursory lookover the person gave scribed a pink 'I' across our landing card and moved along to a person behind who after seeing the 'I' directed us into a large immigration hall with many counters. A yound lady asked if we were for 'PR'. I said yes and she asked if I had the photos? I showed her the photos but these did not meet the stringent requirements, but that wasn't a problem because she had a digital camera with which she took our pictures and made them available to the immigration officer. The immigration officer checked our visa forms and stamped them 'invalid for travel'. Filled all the necessary forms for the 'PR' card and asked how much money we'll be bringing. After this we all signed our respective 'PR' card forms and were told welcome to Canada.
I asked if we were to go back could the receipients of the 'PR'card mail them to us, to which she replied yes. Otherwise she said that I could go to a Canadian embassay and request an emergency travel document by presenting my passport with the now void Visa stapled inside and they would understand.
Finally we were directed to a welcome agent who gave us a welcome pack. This consisted of SIN applications, Child Benefit forms, medical card applications etc.
All this took 30 minutes at the most.
I've lodged my SIN applications at a HR centre downtown.
I'm now back in the UK. Applying for jobs in Toronto.
I must add I did speak to a number of highly quallified people who were now working in factories doing manual labour. I hope things pickup soon, as it's a beautiful country especially to bring up a family.

Don't you have any goods (furniture, clothing, dishes, etc.) that will be coming into
Canada. Did you provide Customs with a list of those goods? Anything that you want
brought into Canada duty-free must be on that list.
