I know the downturn in Calgary Alberta for employment is not great however I wonder if that is for the labor side of employment ie, building trades and obviously the oil industry.
However I am thinking of relocating to Calgary to be closer to my husband who is in the hospitality world of the oil sands. I am currently an office manager and wondered if anyone knew of the administration world and if there has been severe knocks to that industry and if there are still companies out there regardless of the oil downturn are still employing.
Thoughts and help much appreciated!

Best thing to do is look at job recruitment sites. I like WOW Jobs. Admin has also been hard hit for jobs as oil companies don't need so much doing.

Some companies are still employing, but open positions are receiving upwards of 500 applications, depending on the industry...a friend of mine was speaking to his HR colleague and they had a basic labouring position in Calgary that received 800 applications

There are still jobs out there, but I agree with Haggis - we have been receiving sometimes 400-600 applications for jobs where we might have previously received 150-200.
And people are still resigning from us and moving to other jobs - recruitment is still going on - I guess it's just at a slower pace with more applicants to choose from, which in fact hinders the pace too!
