I believe job hunting whilst still in the UK is difficult regardless of age. If your age is your only real concern about a new life in Canada why not take a reccie trip and see how things go.
Your qualifications and experience in your chosen field may have a bearing on how it works out. Also what visa route are you hoping to use is it FSW as your age could affect your overall points.
What ever your decision I'd like to wish you good look.

Julius. Forget about it.
It's really not very likely that it's going to happen.

One option is s**t or get off the pot. Then you wouldn't spend yet another few years posting these naval gazing threads.
Just a thought.

Sorry mate but you are to old to go IMO, by the time you have settled and really set up a good lifestyle you will only have a few years left
get some slippers, open the scotch get the log fire going and enjoy whats left of your life

What do you think he's going to do once he's here? Drift through life for a while and not achieve anything? How long do you think it takes to be settled and in a good lifestyle? He's got another 30+ years of life expectancy and you're suggesting it's not worth it?

Keep on going, never too old.
The perception of age changes with age.......... I am 43, I expect to work until I am 65-70, so got another 25 years to offer an employer, where I do that depends on where I get a job offer.

Julius is not too old.
We are both 42, which is not that much younger that him.
My OH got a job fairly quickly after beginning looking and I have a job after 1 week of looking, so I do not think it is that hard to get a job if you are motivated and prepared to be flexible.
My husband is settled in his job (which he has had for just over a year) and is happy, doing well and earning more than he did in the UK.
While I am earning less to begin with, I am just Temp Christmassing and my salary will go up significantly in the New Year.
In the meantime, we aren't struggling for cash, have a car and a nice lifestyle that is at least as good as in the UK.
If you think old, you are old.
Yes, those who say stop naval gazing are right, if a bit blunt.
You have skills and experience, no dependents and everything to go for, so get on with it if you want it.
Time waits for no-one and if you think about it much longer then you might succumb to the "slippers, open the Scotch, get the log fire going" mentality.
If that is what you want, then fair enough, but otherwise get something else on the go RIGHT NOW!
