Just returned from a fab trip to Tofino.
Thanks for the recommendations on where to stay -we wouldn't have chosen this lodge on our own but are so glad we did. The lodge was all that was promised and more. - The room was pretty small, but who cared when the surroundings are so fabulous.
Long Beach is gorgeous and a must see - it was like being shipwrecked on a (cold, damp - but that's west coast Canada in April
) tropical island. We got to see our first real life black bear (so exciting), went whale watching and ate some really excellent food.
We'd definitely recommend Middle Beach Lodge to anyone who asks and also raincoast cafe for food - that place in in our top ten restaurants for life.
Now it's back to reality - we're just too chilled out to care

will let you have our recipe for polenta fries when OH gets home. He asked the lady in the van for it and then made them. I think they were really bad for you (fried in chip oil type thing)

Any other recommendations for places to eat. We are going in June for the first time and cannot wait.

There was a good place (on the more pricey side) if you are after a nice meal one evening - I think it was called Schooners and it was on the left hand side as you get into the main part of Tofino. Oh had the Dungeness crab and loved it!
Flossie
P.S. word of warning - if you are going whale watching and are the sort of people who get a little queasy on a boat then take some tablets/wear a wristband (I speak from experience!)

If you have the time and want a calmer whale watching experience go to Port McNeill and Telegraph Cove on the east side of the Island.

We went to Tofino when we first came over for a look around. Someone told us we MUST stay there, and we are glad we did. On one walk we saw some bald eagles flying over head, just great. We stayed at the Best Western, good food and right on the beach.
Looking forward to getting back over there when we can.

Other places apart from Raincost Cafe to eat -
We also tried the restaurant at Middle Lodge Beach too - had dungeoness crab - and we spent bloody ages trying to get those tiny pieces of crabmeat out of the shell
luckily the desserts filled us up to the point where we could only manage one cookie each in the lodge after dinner
We didn't make it to SOBO
- which gives us an excellent reason to hurry back on our next free weekend.
- Schooners - really good, other people we met there also recommended it
- Blue Heron restaurant - pretty good (although my blackened-halibut was a little undercooked for my taste, Jim's maple-glazed salmon was de-lish!
- Dockside pub at Weigh-West resort - pub food or good for lunch - the spicy chicken wings were tasty and the portions were HUGE - big enough to share

Love the photo. Your OH looks really impressed with his crab.

We were there the weekend Canada beat the yanks in the hockey olympic final. We had two superb days on our deck over looking the ocean in the first warmish sunshine of the spring. Wasnt a cloud all the time we were there. Its a true chill out heaven.
