Easy mistake. Grey clouds, clear blue sky. No difference.

I have a friend in Calgary and I am jealous of the mountain view but not the weather. Chinook causes head aches and they got - degrees already. 21-23 degrees and apart from 2 days all super sunny here for next week. Not sure where the overcast comes from but she told me as well that that's what she heard about Ottawa, that it's grey a lot and gets dark super early???????

Odd ideas that people have. Still, i think Calgary is a souless, modern concrete sprawl whose only redeeming feature is a view of the mountains.

Your friend is definitely wrong about Ottawa.

You are not wrong. This has been the nicest September I can remember. I'm still in shorts and it's now October!

Looking out of my window now, I see clear blue overcast. And some stunning colours.

My house guests have been monumentally fortunate with the weather.

2 years ago was nice, too. Our youngest daughter was born Oct 7t 2011 and it was 30 degrees on that day . I cherish and enjoy every warm day because I know it'll be cold soon, still sunny though

Lucky you with that warm weather.

Do most people in Almonte work in Ottawa? On Wikipedia it says the town mostly relies on tourism for industry. It seems a bit off the beaten track, but nicely situated.

Yes, cherish it. I'm going to the UK for two weeks next weekend. I'm pretty sure that what I come back to will not be what I left.

Have a nice trip! We went last year for Christmas. Left mid December, cold but all greenish and came back on the 2nd of January to 2 feet of snow

Higher than England and way higher than Calgary, if you look at the precipitation totals.

Compare the average amount of sunshine columns in these two tables:

Compared to Calgary it does as those tables illustrate.

I'm not sure if a Chinook does cause a headache, depends on the person I suppose but they do have the advantage of melting the snow and the lower precipitation also means there is less snow to melt. So you don't have to go outside and shovel it, which means you notice the cold less.

However, more precipitation means higher humidity, which is the true downfall of the weather in Calgary, incredibly dry.

We're moving to Kanata from SE London in a few weeks. Things that helped us choose Ottawa and Kanata are family, house prices, shops and recreation facilities, commute time, feeling of safety and of, on the whole, it being a nice area.

Small world! We're moving in about 6 weeks (just got our spousal approval through so moving now rather than later as London is bleeding us!) - also from SE London (Blackheath)!

We're sorting a holiday let in Westboro for the first couple of months whilst we find our feet/me a job/permanent accom hopefully in the same area if we like it.

Who've you used to move/ship? I'm about to compare quotes this weekend and already have a headache thinking about it.
