I don't think it was meant to be taken all that seriously. I bet the same kind of thing could be written about every country in the world - including the UK. Every country has its own idiosyncracies that people from other countries think are bonkers!! Thank goodness for the differences. Already the world is getting smaller - soon the only way we will be able to tell which country we are in will be because of the things in the joke!!

On a different note: would you mind sharing why you guys did not accept EURO as a unified currency in the Euro-zone? I recently flew to Rome via London and it sure sucks as hell to have to deal with the Pound while all the other developed EU countries use a single currency (like the US, hint...). Do you think it helps EU compete with the USA and improve the standard of living by having different currencies every couple hundred of kms (had others followed your dividing vote)?

Most British people want no part of any country called Europe.

Canada and the US are only two countries (like India and Pakistan, for comparison's sake), but there we had many countries against a few declining to unite...
So why are Brits in the EU if they "want no part of any country called Europe"? Is your gov't doing it against your will? I thought it was a democracy after all...?

How stupid....... here's another post that needs to be closed Ray?
It was posted as a funny from John Cleese ..... OK not everyone finds him funny, but it was surely NOT meant to spark a political discussion ........ how on earth did we get on to the EU?
For goodness sake!
Some people are just spoiling for a fight .... well this is not the place! Please go to "Take it outside" if that is your whim!!
