hello this is my first time on any forum so just bear with me ,my family and i are thinking of moving to the cambridge area ,my wifes cousin and family live in cambridge and we are going to stay with them for a week in june to see what the area is like and then travel to sherkston shores for 2 weeks for a well earned holiday. We would be coming over on a 2 year working visa but that all depends on a job offer, i am an industrial electrician aged 32 from Scotland ,i am wondering what exams if any i have to sit to receive a job offer ,i am looking for as much info on immigrating and applying for jobs as possible from people that have been there also how much of a deposit do i have to put down on a house when buying, i have heard 30% and my wife is a hairdresser ,would she be able to work or would she have to apply seperately thanks very much.

Good luck on the job offer from ontario, we have tried twice and although hubby has had job offers, none want to know him without him getting his own work permit :curse:
Hes an industrial electrician, gone through the licence with the ministry of training, yeah they advise that you dont need the licence, but wow the wages are yuk if you have no licence.
The big employer in cambridge is Toyota, yep same story, cant get passed HR there.
If you need links etc, i have them for the licence, just PM me and ill pass them over, but on a good note, cambridge is a lovely area

The exam is set at a pass rate of 70% and above, hubby is 34 and is classed as a maintenance manager here in the uk, when he sat the test at toronto we rushed at 4am in he morning from london (ontario) to toronto so not really prepared for it, he missed by 2 points :curse:
The women at the training was well impressed and said that he would pass next time round, due to the lack off employers willing to go through the TWP, we have opted to goto alberta (after alot of more looking)
We are at the moment still in lancashire
due out to alberta on saturday for his 10 interviews he has set up from here
The link to the ministry is http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/training/foreign.html
they will also need you to provide a canadian address and some of the officers are not very helpful, but do keep plugging at them, as they will allow you to sit the exam and get your qualificiations assed.
No you cant book exams or stuff from outside of canada, you must be there and do everything and have all your paper work in order.
You will need letters from all employers advising what you have done in that job, also all courses etc that you have done in theuk, there should be a list on the webiste..
hope that helps

Cheers for the info Gill,is your husband going to resit exam before he attends interviews in Alberta and is it easy to set up interviews without having the licence, also have you found employers arent interested in TWPs in Cambridge area.
Would you recommend any of these immigration companies that promise the earth ,if so which one, or do you do everything yourself, hope youre husband is successful and gets the job he wants, how long are you visiting for ,please keep in touch to tell me hows you got on .
Cheers Nabber
