Welcome to BE. This would be a good place for them to start reading and get a better understanding of what it takes to immigrate to Canada.

NVQ means nothing in Canada

In the UK that might be an accepted thing. In Canada it is meaningless.

You would have to get a transcript to prove that. In Canada employers would not have a clue what it is.

worth mentioning that whilst Canada is definitely cold in the winter, in quite a few places I think it's pretty hot in the summer as well. So depends what your mum means when she says she wants somewhere cold

From an employment standpoint I agree. Safety here is an icestuous little pool, where everyone knows everyone else, and safety supervisors have either worked up there through 20 years with an organisation from the ground floor, or else have served time with the ministry of labour.

Foreign qualifications I doubt are recognised. Thats how it seems to me from my run ins with the business as a management safety rep.

Really??? I think you should check that! Still, UK qualifications are often unrecognised by the Canadians, and rules & regulations here are very different to those in the UK, so your dad would probably need to do extra training. For example, they don't have COSHH here, they have WHMIS

They need to look into the different provinces too, as Canada is vast and the weather varies enormously from one side of the country to the other.

No it isn't.
There's a table here that outlines the level equivalency

- NVQ at level 4 is the same level as BTEC Professional Diplomas, Certificates and Awards and HNCs.
