Attitude is the other thing that can often discourage a prospective employer. For instance, anyone who demonstrates a "Command and Control" or hierarchical management philosophy is not likely to get far in the more collaborative Canadian work environment.
That's probably the key to the "Canadian Experience" issue.

Seems that all skilled trades, naturally need re-training in Canada , to meet the local regs, ( codes ), etc.
True it does seem to be a lot of IT people talking about jobs, or lack of them, on the posts.
p.s.
we can both build computers etc,
so maybe we are self trained IT !!!
cheers

The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) runs very good career events ... where you meet lots of fresh local IT graduates who are working in bars, etc, because they can't get jobs in IT.
One of the things that separates old farts like me who've been in the industry since PCs ran on coal from the new kiddies, is the willingness to continually train and recertify year upon year ... that and a lot of experience.
New graduates get their degrees and think they're made ... unfortunately what they've learned in their degree is usually out of date before the ink is dry ... it's been like that for years in IT ... if you hire a graduate, the first thing you have to do is to training them properly ... hire someone experienced and they can just sit down at a keyboard and get on with it.
That's the end of the advert for "grey head" IT skills

I would have thought you would have mastered that trick by now. You really need to get a move on, to be able to reserve your space on the sidewalk before everything gets taken....spring is here and summer is just around the corner!!!!!

Hi,
I'm gonna doing whatever job I can get that'll pay enough to allow me to carry on living in Canada.
Not bothered about earning loads, as long as I can earn enough to be comfortable that's all I'm bothered about.
Pipe dream always been to run a bar, something I'm gonna try and get into when I get over there.

I'm a lecturer in further education - specialising in teaching IT!! . However, if I get allowed through the big, red, maple decorated door then I hope to teach in any field to get a start. Whether that's core skills, community provision, special educational needs I don't care.
Maybe I'll flip burgers?? Gotta start somewhere. It's the adventure that counts.
