Default Are there any chefs done the move

Its been a while since I've been on this website but still not found any threads about chefs in Canada. Does anyone know of any chefs who have made the move, or even any chefs from Canada. Do they think its a better way of life.

We are still debating about a move to Canada and we are going to the Liverpool Emigrate show this weekend, dont know if that will answer any questions.

Still very daunted by the whole idea but excited aswell

Can't help you a lot I afraid.

Here is a site that give some figures:-

http://www.payscale.com/research/CA/...ef/Hourly_Rate

Sous Chef in Winnipeg is about $15 an Hour.

Prep-Chef about $12

Washer-up about $9

Split shifts are common, so overtime is rare.

I know a Head Chef in the City who is on $50,000 per year but works 60 hour weeks.

Health and Safety is inferior to the UK as are Holidays (4% of wages). No Sick Pay except through EI, No Pension schemes other than Government.

I hope this will be useful for you in deciding which part of Canada will be best for your family. However, like I said, these are just average wages. My mother is working on a TWP as a Chef in Toronto and she is being compensated at $20/hour, so the wage that your OH will get as a chef may be higher than the above figures.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to send me a PM.
