Anyone with stories of this special holiday,
haven't had the chance of being in canada during that time of year, must be quite special?

My first trip to Canada was over Thanksgiving in 1994.
I went to meet and spend time with a pen pal in Vancouver. (Fell in love - with Vancouver!)
It was a family gathering type day with lots of drink and chat and Turkey and Pumpkin Pie - loads of Pumpkin Pie. Had been roped into "hunting" the pumpkin in the muddy farm fields around Ladner somewhere.

Then where ever we went for the next week we had Turkey, Turkey stew, Turkey soup, Turkey sandwiches and of course everything ended with a large slice of Punkin Pie!

That year Cristmas dinner back home was ruined as I kept having flashbacks of...yes, you guessed, Pumpkin F***ing Pie.
Thankfully we are leaving for Trano after Thanksgiving, so I will have a years grace before having to deal with that particular Canadian culinary delight.

I'd like to hear those stories too! I've been here 8 years and from what I've seen Canadian Thanksgiving isn't really a big deal especially compared to American Thanksgiving.

I've actually been asked by Canadians "so what do you do for Thanksgiving back in the UK?"

Everyone here seems to celebrate Thanksgiving along with their familiies. Kids come home from college/uni and families all make the effort to come together for a special day.
Seems like all the shops etc will be closed.
We, as first generation expats, have no extended family here so will make the most of it with our kids. We are not planning our official 'landing' this weekend after all as we are not organised enough but hopefully will be heading off the following weekend instead
Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Now I get the job at Christmas as well and it has become a sort of tradition.

We'd been in Canada for 6 weeks last Thanks Giving. Went to the Turkey Sale up in Whilster, and then to WhiteSpot for Turkey dinner, but was very disappointed that they didn't do pumpkin pie (which is actully very tastey)
I think it is all rather over rated, but a good reason for all those Canadian moms to get their kids home for a weekend, airlines and bus companies to put their prices up and all the other commericial things that happen these days.
