Default TFSA allowance- question for Jonboy

I will be taking up Canadian PR residence on the 1st August and will be opening a TFSA as soon as possible. Can you tell me if I can put the whole year's allowance in or only a proportion for the 5 months I will have been in residence i.e. up to the 1st January 2014?

Thank you
Granma Nessie

The TFSA dollar limit is not prorated in the year an individual:

turns 18 years old;
dies; or
becomes a resident or a non-resident of Canada.

\oh that's good I will be able to put the whole $5500 in for this year. Thanks Siouxie.
Am looking forward to starting my new life with my family on Thursday and have found this forum so helpful over the last 5 long years waiting for PR sponsorship.
