Isnt the regular Tetley you see on the shelves here "Orange Pekoe" like all the rest of the non specialist tea here?

I find the (loblaws etc. own brand) Presidents Choice tea acceptable and not too expensive (unlike Twinings :scared: ),either English Breakfast or Earl Grey.

In general the ubiquitous Orange Pekoe is OK in a pinch, but a bit bland and over sweet. Steer clear of the steeped tea at Timmys , and always ask for "bag in"!

We've found typhoo in Fortinos recently and have now moved off the tetleys

Oxo's available here, just comes in sachets instead of cubes. I'm not an expert, I use them to chuck in a casserole now and then and the sachets seem to do the same job the cubes did

Hardly surprising. It's the same stuff; just not squashed into a cube.

I'm starting to have this mental image of thousands of Brits walking through customs at Pearson (or wherever) with bag full of OXO, Marmite, Walkers Crisps, Tetley tea etc. No clothes or anything like that, just the essentials one needs to survive as an immigrant.

Ciao, as we say in these parts.

I prefer Asda's one cup, pack 400 for 2.79. Each time I go home I get half dozen bags and as I drink pots of tea it doesn't sit around to long.

I HATE drinking coffee,so much so that when we are on holiday I take tea bags in my handbag and make my own tea when I am out.

I just buy a 'tea' from any of the shops, use their mill and water, but my own tea bag!

Does anyone think I am crazy?

You can't beat being a little bit eccentric when you are a Englishman.woman on holiday!

I am sure that even when we move out I will still do the same! Good job my husband drinks coffee - he is a good distraction for the staff while I am making my own tea!

On our last research trip to Canada we also took our own tea bags with us. I don't mind North American coffee but 'her indoors' likes her cuppa, particularly when things are getting a bit stressy. After a particularly strenuous day with accountants, lawyers and realtors we went for some window shopping. We spotted a cafe and went in. We asked for 2 teas but they only sold earl grey (sorry can't stand the perfume) so asked for two cups of hot water and some milk. The chap serving looked at us as if was a devout catholic and we had just said the pope was a heretic (which of course he isn't). Anyway he brought them to us and watched in dismay as we removed the tesco premium tea bags from a rucksack and plonked them into the hot water. We tried to hide but as we were the only customers, he didn't take his eyes off us. When I went to pay at the end he said "no charge" I insisted and ended up putting money in the charity box. We couldn't get out fast enough and in the end didn't enjoy the tea because of the suspected offence we had caused.

Everyone realizes of course that tea doesn't grow in England and all the tea is coming from the same places in India and so forth? A single estate tea grown and picked in Assam is going to be the same leaf in the bag in whatever country you buy it in if it comes from the same estate. There are of course different blends and a few companies in England that have specific blends but we have hundreds of different teas in our store and I have Yorkshire tea and orange pekoe blakc tea as well as darjeelings and assams etc that are all the same estates and leaves as in England and taste pretty much exactly the same.

Yes good point. Surely the same then can be said about coffee and the coffee beans? Tim Hortons, Starbucks etc? Let's light the touch paper..................

okthink about this then....the hardness or softness of the water and or any other 'addertives' in the H20 will affect the flavour / taste more than you might realise? (have I added fuel to the burning fuse?)
