Default TB Skin Test

Does anyone know if a positive TB Skin test could mean that an employer won't hire you?

I have a conditional job offer with a school board. One of the conditions is a TB skin test. It didn't say it had to come back negative.

I've had the test and to me it looks like bad news. There is a red circle appearing on the site. I have to go back to have it read tomorrow.

Does anyone have any info about TB skin tests and how they can effect employment?

Thanks

Kellie

Unlikely, all the positive test shows is that sometime in the past you have :
# been exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis
# had tuberculosis before and has been cured (successfully treated)
# been immunized for tuberculosis with the BCG vaccine
# tuberculosis
If the Dr. considers it a positive, then you will either have an x-ray or sputum test (sputum if there is a concern on the x-ray)

Probably no big deal.

I would imagine that most people from the Uk would have the same reaction to the HEAF (skin prick ) test. Up untill fairly recently BCG vaccination was routinely carried out on 15 year olds. Do you have a vaccination scar (usually on your left arm towards the top)? if so then all your result means is that the vaccination was effective.

I don't know how up to speed your school board/CIC are - but the local school here accepted my word for it that testing my kid was pointless as they'd get a false positive (he was BCGed in the UK before we came to Canada).

i went thru the saga of positive testing.

did a skin test came back pos
did another skin test came back pos
did a xray came negative
did a blood test at the infectious disease clinic in the local hospital came back negative cost a damn fortune tho.

outcome - i have letter stating that i am NEVER TO HAVE a skin test ever again because the reaction to the first was bad to the second i had a arm that was disgustingly huge....

we brits are apparently known to give off false possys. so dont fuss about it. Unless of course u are pos and then i can only advise u to start treatment asap. which is a paiin in the ass too. but better than the other choice.

Thanks guys,

Well the circle on my arm is redder and brighter, so we shall see tomorrow.

I grew up here in Canada, so I don't think I ever had the BCG.

I just hope it does not mean that they won't give me the job.
