ask them about their policy
Line 485 - Balance owing
If your total payable (line 435) is more than your total credits (line 482), enter the difference on line 485. This amount is your balance owing. When the due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or a public holiday recognized by the CRA, your payment is considered paid on time if we receive it on or before the next business day. Since April 30, 2017, falls on a Sunday, your payment will be considered paid on time if we receive it on or before May 1, 2017. For more information, see Important dates.
Your balance is due no later than April 30, 2017. Generally, if the difference is $2 or less for 2016, you do not have to make a payment.

As of April 30th coming I will have filed 50 Canadian Income Tax Returns for myself and my spouse. I have never experienced any problems with CRA whatsoever. My returns are not that simple as they include rental and investment income. I guess I have a horseshoe up my arse.

We have just had submitted our 49th CRA Income Tax Return, and have 2 minor follow-ups from them during those years.
I did the returns myself for the first few years until we spent 10 months in Australia that spanned 2 years ........... we had a CGA do our tax returns for those two years, and CRA questioned one of the returns, possibly because we had rented our house while we were away. His advice was to pay the difference then argue .......... it worked out, we paid, he argued, they paid us back.
I then decided it was easier to get an expert to do the returns, and we went to a CA (my niece's husband) ........... again everything went fine except for 1 year when CRA questioned something, I now forget what. CA's advice was wait until we got a real voice on the phone instead of a computer-generated call. We did, got a phone number from him, and CA sorted it out in less than 5 minutes.
We now have a financial manager handling everything, and it is soooooooooo easy
...... all we do is get the bits of paper together and hand it over.
This year, OH took everything down on Friday, we went into the office on Tuesday, signed all the forms and we should our refunds in about a week.
It has always been worth paying the money ............
