Take a butchers at this - http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4055/README.html
IIRC you came over before the wife - if she was still earning in the UK whilst you was here, then that might need to be taken into consideration...

cheers Bud,
Yeh, I came over first, but wife used our savings as she didn't work...........
hopefully then, the information they have is sufficient.
If I read it all carefully, they only ned to know if I, or wife, earned any money in the UK whilst I was over here and earning..........
Ps, hope everything is going OK for you too

Hi all,
this is our first time doing the tax return, my husband tried to use the Ufile and quick tax if I am not wrong. but it has been very complicated because of all the informations we must fill in like our earnings in the UK last year, the tax and we got our tax refund from UK as well, we submit everything and it came out that we got 0 dollars return, and on the other software it came out that we have to pay some money instead, it's very confusing as the results are so different for both softwares.
I would like to know how do you guys do it the very first time? did you guys did it yourself with the online softwares? or did you do it with the tax agencies?
Any advice would be appriciated. thanks!

He'll certainly save you far more money in realtion to his/her fee, less the hassle of the "Taxman"

i have another question i'm going to ask in this thread as it's the most recent tax thread.
so i'm aware that i can claim my moving costs from the uk to canada... does this include my plane ticket? has anyone claimed their plane ticket before? if so then the only proof i have is the email the airline sent me as they're ticketless. if i print this email is that suffiecient? i guess nobody would know unless they've been audited about this in the past???
thanks for any help

Canada has so many people wanting to come here it does not require to offer such perks. As a matter of fact many people pay to come here.

And to add, claiming moving costs in the year you become tax resident in Canada is very probably going to trigger an audit.

i got such an idea from the quicktax software which mentioned that you can claim moving expenses. it did NOT mention that i had to be a tax resident both before and after i file my taxes this year. i dont know all the tax rules? but i CAN ask questions. thanks for letting me know.

Do they actually call it that? Mine have been called "reviews....to determine if we have assessed your return correctly". (ie, we think you're pulling a fast one)

If your return looks "normal", you probably won't get audited. If it does happen, the letter will likely come some time this autumn (and next autumn and the one after that...........).

One reason why it's a good idea to keep all paperwork related to what you put in your return.

I'm sure they will for that. We moved for work and claimed selling realtor fees, and travel expenses for moving, and sure enough the 'request for evidence' arrived later in the year. A friend at work told me you are pretty much guaranteed an investigation for big claims like this.
