The ONLY time this happened was flying out of Tel Aviv but they also wanted to see my recently saved documents and calendar to make sure i was telling the truth. Pretty strict airport for sure.

I can imagine it would be.

Strangely, in Japan, you can't even the area surrounding most airports unless you have a passport and a flight ticket/itinerary for some reason. No meeting your loved ones at the gate over there I suppose.

I wouldn't worry about the midget TV.

That is strict.

It certainly was.

Process goes like this:

1, drive to airport perimeter for passport check and vehicle check/driver inspection
2, arrive at the terminal for passport check and questioning about your stay (show laptop and calendar)
3, slot baggage into bomb detection device
4, have luggage searched and swabbed
5, check-in and passport checks
6, Arrive at security
7, Fully clothed body search, hand luggage scan, hand luggage and ALL contents swabbed and searched, hands, shoes, and fingernails swabbed etc
8, final passport control
9, enter the lounge area

Arrived at the airport 3 hours before the flight as recommended and after all of the above had only 5 minutes in the lounge before boarding.

Pretty impressive stuff and in all honesty the airport is lovely and the staff and security were great. They all look hard as nails mind you. Must be all that Krav Maga.

Well that confirms it, I am never going to Israel.

I have never really had any interest in going there anyway but after reading that it's a definite no-no.

Oh don't get me wrong, Tel Aviv is a great place. I'd go back again any time.

Weirdly, the excursion through the airport was a nice experience. Different, but nice. Nothing like as depressing as security in T's 1, 2, 3, & 4 at LHR for example.

Well it takes quite a lot to be as bad as that airport. It's easily one of the least favourite airports that I have ever been through, 2nd only to Fiumicino. That place should be condemned.

If I have to fly through London, and I try to avoid it whenever possible, then I would rather just pay the extra and fly through Gatwick if I can do.

Oh no, Crapwick is a chav-fest. Hate that place. T5 LHR is a nice experience and the others aren't "that" bad once you're through to the lounge.

CDG is probably my least favourite airport. Terminal 2A (i think) is a shitfest.

CDG is crap admittedly and I never really found JFK to be anything all that special if I'm honest. Rome Da Vinci is a decrepit mess though which should have felt the wrath of a wrecking ball a long time ago.

Manchester airport is also, admittedly, shit but like most who live in the north west of England I have grown used to it now.

I always found LHR to be embarassing if I'm honest. Most major airports in the US have a monorail which transports you safely between terminals. All LHR can offer, as the world's busiest international airport, is a crappy little bus service.

I have to disagree with you about Gatwick.

I've enjoyed Gatwick whenever I've been there, it's always been fairly quiet and the staff seem generally more friendly.

Not being LHR it does attract some of the 'fortnight in Malaga' crowd throughout the summer though who are always people best avoided if possible.

Admittedly i've only flown in and out of there a couple of times but that was a while ago.

My comments are based around when i pick my father-in-law up when he flies there via Air Transat or TC and some of the clientèle of the other airlines are a little rough indeed.

You should see the queue for a First Choice flight out of Manchester during the summer months, it really makes you quite sad to look at it.

Let me guess. Shell suits and men wearing trousers with lots of zippered pockets.
