Hello
I have seen a few posts by saying that the electronically sent their money over to Canada. What I would like to know has anyone taken over Travellers Cheques instead?
My Nottingham branch of Marks and Spencers gives a very good excahnge rate for travellers cheques. It beats all the banks. I am thinking about taking my money across with in travellers cheques. Is this a sensible thing to do?

I was thinking about doing that as well, but wanted other peoples opinions too. My bank in Canada charges less to cash travellers cheques than it does to receive a wire payment. So, it might be worth finding out what your bank charges for these services...

When I went over in January I took travellers cheques and they cheques I had lefted over I put into my wifes account there. They did not charge a single cent to do this. She banks with CIBC bank.

I think most banks will charge a small fee (I bank with Royal Bank and they charge $3 per transaction). But I would still be interested to see what most people do - bring travellers cheques or wire money...
Did you say your travellers cheques would be in Canadian dollars? If so - do you haev to pre-order them? Are you charged to get them?

They were in Canadian Dollars. In december I did not have pre-order them as I only changed about 500 pounds. But I assume if I wanted to take 7000 pounds they would need some notice. I was not charged a single penny for them. Which is why I would use them again.
