Helloooo, was just wondering if I can bring my laptop to Canada with me from England, will it work ok or should I sell it and buy another one over there? I've got a cracking lappy I like very much and to sell it I'm going to lose a load of money but if I can take it with then happy days I'll keep hold, can anyone enlighten me on this please..? Ta.

Check the little box on your ac adapter cord and if it says 100-240V 50-60Hz input, then all you need is the right plug adapter which you can buy anywhere.

Or just buy a new US/Canada power cable that fits into the existing laptop power converter (this way you don't need to remember the UK to US/Canada plug adapter).
Or buy a whole new power supply (power converter and cable).

You'll need a converter plug for it, like a travel plug but they are cheap.
Alternatively, you can probably buy a new power adapter for your model over there on ebay as well.

We bought a new plug for ours from the hardware store and changed it over. You can get universal power cables etc. though, should be easy

We brought ours over no problem but be aware if you use a computer at work your going to be cursing the subtle differences in keyboard layout !

Ooh, yes! My laptop actually changed itself to American when we moved. I know you can manually change it back, but it was a surprise.

I have mine manually forced to English (UK) as on Canadian laptops it likes to be "nice" and give you a spin in french land every once in a while when set to English (Canada) ... The question mark turns into an e-accent-aigu!
Alas I set it to English (UK) with Maltese add in and no more French!

They won't work in Canada because hey don't have BlockHeater.
All Canadian laptops have BlockHeater to stop your balls freezing off.

No. We moved here long before that was invented. It died about 5 years ago and I don't remember what was on it, probably XP.

Really? Interesting... Is it a Windows 8 laptop?

But I do get messed up on the keyboard changes from the UK to Canadian versions and often curse when using the school computers when the "@" is in the wrong place, can't get the Euro or GBP signs etc...
