Default Taking the cat

Does anyone know please what are the minimum requirements for exporting a cat out of the UK to Canada?

Im getting conflicting and quite frankly confusing answers.

I took our cat for its rabies jab today, 20 days before we fly, but was also told by the vet that he would need an Export Health Certificate, which had to be done at least 21 days after the rabies jab and within 10 days of travel. That seems like it wouldn't be possible to take the cat on the flight in that case?

Or do we just need a rabies jab to take him out of the country?

Royally confused.

Matt

No idea but be aware of bylaws that may require you to have a cat licence and if they go outside, a leash.

You need the EHC as well as the rabies vaccine. The EHC verifies that the pet is free from all disease is needed to import the pet to Canada. The airlines also use it to check if the pet is fit to fly. One thing is I thought the EHC was to be completed with 72 hours of travel.

If you're not using a pet transport company (they would do the EHC for you when they collect the pet) then you'll need to either change your flights to a couple of days later, or perhaps ask a friend to take the cat to the airport for you?

Good luck.

With some further investigation today I would say youre spot on. I’m getting the cat booked in for his certificate the day before we fly.

Good luck.

Believe it or not it seems an AHC is different than an EHC. An AHC is for just Europe whereas an EHC is for the rest of the world. The difference is an AHC has to be carried out at least 21 days after your pet has had their rabies jab, whereas an EHC can be done within a few days of the rabies jab.
