Default Swop.....open work permit and children

Sorry that's meant to say Sowp.......silly iPad!

Hi, I have some more questions im still not sure of .......can any of you help ?

Right so I qualify for an open work permit as a spouse as hubby's permit is the right class for me to have an open one......what about if I wanted to work with children orin a school, would I need a medical then?, because as it stands if I don't work with kids etc neither of us will need medicals until PR applications once in Canada.....?

Am I right in thinking if I wanted to work with children I'd need medical and then wouldn't be able to apply at point of entry with him....?

What about adding it on at a later date ?, is that possible as I don't intend to work right away?

Would I be able to volunteer to help out in the kids schools still.......?

Also I read about a pilot for kids to get open work permits to in Ontario where were going to be but as far as I can see is only up till July 2012, anyone know if this was extended or if he'll be able to get one....he's 15 this year, he probably wouldn't need it, but if its available its something we would do just in case.

Any help would be appreciated, all very confusing.....thanks in advance xx

If wanting to work with children then yes a medical will be required. You can apply once in Canada inland application and medical forms will be sent. I did this 12 months after arriving in Canada

You can still volunteer in their school as long as you keep it below a certain amount of hours per week (FL will be along soon no doubt to tell you what it is).

Im not actually sure what CIC say about the number of volunteer hours when working with children in a school as opposed to say coaching a hockey team full of kids. In most cases a medical would be required. If a medical is required then no TWP at POE will be issued unless results of medical are known. As CIC has now gone onto the GCMS system and CBSA does not have full access or even limited access to that system I would get the TWP from the overseas offices where medicals are required.

From memory I think my TWP at POE specified I could not work with kids or elderly. They then just verbally told me that if I wanted to work with either I would need to have a medical.
I never did need one and now I have PR...

Still may take several months before medicals for PR will be requested (just so you are aware)

if medicals are done within 12 months for work permit can be used again for PR (unless things have changed in the last few months)
