Stick to Vancouver your geography sucks. Keep the riff raff in south Surrey/Cloverdale and Downtown....! Newton and Whalley not so good but many other places are a great place to live. Best kept secret around.

Depends what floats ya boat I guess. Not an area that I would go for, in fact one I'd avoid altogether, but then a lot more affordable than South Surrey.

I recently moved from White Rock, BC and i can say, hand on heart, stear clear of surrey......... its not the nicest place to stay. Try Creswcent Beach, it is most definately beautiful, and its not far from the highway 99 into the city, you can either go over the Alex Fraser Bridge into the city or through the tunnel, takes roughly about 35 - 40 mins to get to the city depending on the traffic. South Surrey, however is really lovely, and there are some nice little hotels there, but cant think of any off the top of my head......

Vancouver is most definately expensive, i also lived in Kitsilano for a while, which is definately expeensive also...........

My advice for what its worth is try White Rock, Crescent Beach, (Langley is nice but a bit far) Cloverdale has really nice areas too.

Hope that helps

I think what matters is where you want/can afford to live once you get here. Look at some real estate listings: www.remax.ca is one. If you want to live around Surrey, then great, but otherwise what is the point in basing yourself there? I don't like Surrey, but some areas of S.Surrey are nice and further East around Langley etc, can be good if you want something more rural. If you want to live close to town, but can't afford to be downtown, maybe look at N/S/East Van. Still not cheap mind.

days inn on king george is a nice hotel to stay at, reasonably priced and has been refurbished recently....next to sky train station which comes in handy for trips to downtown...

As I said keeps the riff raff out. Not many Brits there either which makes it even better:thumbup:

Maybe this is telling you something. There has been no shortage of riff raff each time I've been there. That's what keeps many of the folks who can afford South Surrey away I believe.
