I've been to Surrey but only once - suffice to say it wasn't exactly my cup of tea so we quickly ruled it out as a place to live. But I'm sure others with more knowledge will be along to help you out shortly.
Do you already have a visa? Or job lined up? If not then it might be a bit premature to be thinking about where to live as you may just have to go wherever you can find work.
Good luck.

Edit: just a thought but if you can give people more info about your circumstances i.e. do you have kids, do you want access to particular things like ski hills etc, roughly what money you have for rent, etc, then I'm sure people will be able to tell you if Surrey will suit and if not, suggest some other areas that might.

Hi There,
Surrey is a big place. There are some lovely areas (South Surrey, White Rock, Cloverdale, Fraser Heights, Fleetwood, etc) and some areas to definately avoid. As someone mentioned it really depends upon your circumstances.

Hi there,
We just moved to Vancouver and have looked at Surrey - the places we loved were Cloverdale, South Surrey, Morgan Heights/Crossing - lovely developments and great communities!
Hope you enjoy your experience!

Hi
Surrey is a big area as people have already said. We moved to Cloverdale a year ago and love it. Some parts of Surrey have large East Indian communities others are good areas and bad areas. I think thats typical of most cities. There are some really nice places but it depends on how much you have to spend too.
Overall there is something for eveyone, it depends on what you like... country, city etc
