Supporting Funds for BUNAC

I am due to be flying over to Calgary on Saturday with the BUNAC non-student programme. The Canada Handbook says that I will need "£500/$1000" in supporting funds to be accepted by the immigration officer. Considering that the interest rate has changed somewhat dramatically since £500 was equivalent to CAD$1000, I am not entirely sure where I stand.
So, I ask anyone who has recently travelled to Canada on a similar programme, and anyone else who may know, how much money in supporting funds are required to enter Canada through this programme or something similar.
I appreciate any help which you may provide me with. Under the circumstances, the issue is imminent.

That said, i think i'd be more worried having only ~£500 of funds if i were moving to another country.

The current minimum stated on the Bunac website is 550GBP. They did check funds when I arrived, although I turned up with the basic amount and no one passed any comment.
As always, more is better so bring as much as you can, the equivilent of 550GBP will not last long. In saying that, you can't bring what you don't have.
Best of luck for Saturday.

Thanks for the help. I have been very busy today, and my mind has been split between many different things, so I haven't really had chance to get back to this thread.
ireland2canada, just so that I can make sure, whereabouts exactly on the BUNAC website are the minimum supporting funds stated? I trust your word, but this being very important, I would prefer to see it for myself before I go.
el_richo, I suspected that there might be some disparity over whether the immigration office asks to see the funds, but I don't think I want to take the risk.
