But seriously, I haven't been in England for 10 years and I just can't remember everything being on display the way it is here.
Sometimes I'm like "My God, doesn't she realise?" - Am I imagining this?

<<I assume you're in Ottawa??[/>> Nope lol. Still in the UK, moving out in the summer, for good, I hope. Was guessing about the weather
I was considering Ottawa as a place to settle but after my visit there in 2003 wasn't impressed with the suberbs although liked the city itself, much more restrained than Toronto which is a bit brash for my old English eyes.
I may have another look around when we get out there though, I'm not dismissing a place based on a 2 week visit 4 years ago!

I take it your 'old english eyes' (cue for a sad song) are looking for mock Tudor manor houses, the Red Lion pub and a village green? Come join us in Guelph then Steve where none of that exists but they do sell Tetley and Boddingtons in some of the bars - bleugh!

Do you go to the gym too much? Are you on steroids? That can effect you libido
Haven't seen any photos yet, haven't you got a digital camera you can surreptitiously use?

Yes, horrible. I used to live in a condo with only the Toronto Star building between us and the lake. Scotland Yard was across the road, the market at the end of the street, it was very nice indeed.

Couldn't do what DB does everyday, the journey would turn me to suicide. Although like where he has his place. Offered to clean, cook and put out the trash for him in order to live there but didn't take me up on it.

I don't do it every day. I currently do it three or four days a week and am gradually moving more stuff home. Planning to do such a commute five days a week would be crazy though it might be ok if you had a job working shifts.

I've driven the Kingston bridge on a regular basis (the busiest road bridge in Europe) and it ain't got a patch on the bonkers driving I encountered on those 2 trips last week.

Last week I drove into downtown Toronto twice and parked just off King St. One time was in the evening rush hour after 5pm and one time on Sunday. There is a noticable difference in the volume of traffic (to be expected) but the wacky driving style is just the same - they cut your nose off at every opportunity.

The standard of driving here is terrible, no question. I have noticed though that it's not so bad driving in from the northwest as from the northeast, I used to have to drive through Markham and Agincourt and felt I should have a big sign on the roof "get outta the way, you aint in an ox cart now". At least in the northwest it's all "fan gula", jabbing fingers and spinning wheels; progress is mad rudely and aggressively but it is made.
