Sun Dogs
#1
Here's a picture I took of some sun dogs last week in winnipeg. Not the best picture but still quite a cool thing to see! Caused by ic crystals in the air which cause some kind of reflection/refraction of the sunlight to give the sun a "halo".

Cool, I love seeing those things..winter rainbows. The downside is it usually has to be frigging freezing to get them!

Maybe its cos the sun has to be at at a specific angle to generate these, and its at that point in the winter when Im going to work, but Ive only really noticed these halos and sundogs on still and clear sunny (and therefore cold) winter mornings and evenings?

We need a KP factor of 3 but they indicated an event tonight to be 5.33
kp map
(The higher the Kp index is, the more likely you see the aurora in any direction including overhead. )
I normal go up to Little mountain Park on the North West Side of the city to escape as much light pollution as possible. Take the dog as it's an off lease park but wrap up real warm.
Seen some fantastic lights lately.
