My 19 year old student daughter is spending three months this summer in Ontario and would like to get some bar work.
Do you think she will need a work permit and if so how easy would it be to get one?
Any advice would be appreciated !

Yes. she will need a permit. It's unlikely she could arrange any type of permit on such short notice.

Unless she already has PR, she will definitely need a work permit - she cannot work at all on a visitor visa.
IEC/Bunac is a good option for her if she qualifies, and would give her a years open work permit. It's quick and easy to arrange (she'd have her visa in about 8 weeks, and the year doesn't start until she enters Canada), but she'll need to make sure she applies asap as there are only 5000 visas available, and the program opened in January so she won't want to miss out.
Alternatively, she would need a job offer and Labour Market Opinion (for which an employer has to prove that they've advertised the job across Canada and been unable to find a Canadian willing, or able, to do the job) to get a normal Temporary Work Permit. Not very likely that any employer will be prepared to go through the LMO paperwork/hassle/wait for just a 3 months stint of bar work tbh. So would suggest she looks at Bunac/IEC asap.
HTH, hope she has fun.

Thanks for the info Ill give the BUNAC option a go then.
Is BUNAC a one off thing or could you do this say every summer? I get the feeling it is a one off?

Unless you are Australian ... in which case you can pop over to work here every year seemingly ad infinitum!

Hi
Because the WHP for Australians is 2 years at each go, and as long as you meet the criteria, you can keep getting work permits every 2 years until you hit 30

I'm sure that citizens of many other countries that cannot get any WHV at all would say the same about UK citizens.

I think it is to do with reciprocal agreements. Its also easier for Canadians to get WHV in OZ ( I think)
