Suddenly a bit scared!!
#1
I've read many times oon the forum of people getting cold feet just before they move and often though how! But now I understand completely, I've just finished work at a job where I work with awesome people and a great atmosphere, but, it's not in Canada.
It's now getting very real and scary, we've just got a one year BUNAC visa so we relying on finding work and gettiing sponsored before our year is up, which is going to take a lot of hard work. So now I'm getting very scared about whether we have made the right decision.
I am sure we have as if we don't try it and move to Canada now we will regret it as this is our best chance but obviously it's hard giving up a stable annd good work situation.
Hopefully in a few days once it'll all feel right again!

On the plus side if all goes well then you're living the dream!
Good luck!

We've all had those moments. You are taking an enormous risk with the course of your life so it's natural.
But if you think it's the right thing to do, then it's the right thing to do.
At the time, my justification was that I knew I'd regret it if I didn't try it and that I had everything setup so I could go back to NZ if it didn't work out.
If it doesn't work out, then you'll have an interesting set of stories, you'll be comforted in the knowledge that you tried - and you'll be down a bunch of money.
If you're feeling sure there are better opportunities for you in Canada then come over and give it a go!

We fly out tomorrow morning.
After two years of preparation with no doubts or uncertainties while being totally and utterly convinced that this is by far the best course of action for myself, wife and kids...
I am now s******* myself with fear that it my be a mistake.
But I'm still going.
Still going...

Canada is a great place, open spaces, clean air, no nosy neighbours - work hard its the land of milk & honey
'Dream the impossible dream' & coming here is just like starting a new job, no different no worse, just an adjustment priod
About the decision ... well if you dont give it a try you wont know & if you dont come you'll regret it for the rest of your life
Think about having a first Canadian Xmas ... you'll love it

Thanks everyone. It's good to hear others have felt the smae. To be honest I probably would be more worried if we didn't get scared from time to time with such a big move!
We've just booked ourselves accommodation for when we get there which is more comforting. Vancouver here we come!!!!

We aren't as far as you down the line and I still get moments of sheer terror when I worry about the move. I'm uprooting my husband from a fantastic job and my children from a fantastic school. I then take some Kalms and remember why it is that I want to go and Canada wins hands down each time.
As most people on here have said, if you don't do it then you'll never know and probably always wonder. I think if we don't follow our dream now then we'll find it difficult to leave the UK as the kids get older and put down their own roots.
Whereabouts are you moving to?

duh!!! Sorry, I've just re-read your thread and you're moving to Vancouver. We're planning on moving to Toronto. What makes it easier is that I've been there a few times and I have very good friends that live nearby.

Hi
We are doing exactly the same thing, we too have Bunac one year working visas with the hope of gaining sponsorship to stay.
We are flying to Vancouver at the end of October when are you leaving?
It is a scary prospect but you only live once!! Alot of people don't have the balls to do it so I commend you, you never know unless you try!
Where abouts are you going to be living in Vancouver? this is something we have yet to sort out

i think my feet are frozen! but i am too distracted by the gagillion things needing to be attended to, for my brain to care about what my feet are up to.
but during those few moments, where the magnitude of our undertaking makes itself felt..... i perceive the terrors to be reassrance that we are doing the right thing.
afterall.... it takes some courage to act on the realisation that comfort is simply boredom without imagination.

I know exactly how that feels. I get brilliant days when I think yes this is so the right thing to do and then I get my down days where I worry myself sick, and wonder what the hell I am doing.
Hang in there and keep trying, as chances like this don't happen more than once.
Good luck, keep smiling and just keep looking at why you wanted this in the first place - keep the focus.
