Studying on a Temp Work Permit

My partner is on a IEC temp permit and has been advised by the jobs he is doing in Canada to take a few additional courses to improve his knowledge.
According to his permit condition he is not allowed to attend education without authorisation (this includes for professional reasons).
On scanning the CIC website I can't seem to find any information on how to get him this authorisation as it is not a study visa (the courses last a maximum of 4 weeks)
Anybody know anything about this?
Many thanks
Emma

My take was that it meant full time education courses. A few paid for, work related night school classes wont present any problems. If they want him to do an MBA then that may be different..

Hey Iaink
Thanks for that it is simply a 2 nights per week four week course in industry rigging. Do you know who I would need to contact at CIC to confirm that he is eligible we are hoping to apply for PR soon so don't want to get into trouble doing things the wrong way!

Dont know sorry...
Cant see anyone fussing over an 8 evening industy course though, but perhaps its one of those cases where its better to ask forgiveness than to seek permission. I've a feeling I know what the default answer from the half trained cic callcenter operatives would be if confronted with the question... its easier to deny permission to all then to apply common sense.

This is pretty self explanatory
If you wish to study in a short-term course or program
You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
