Default Studying post-secondary school in canada

hi everybody.

I'm 16 years old and about to finish my GCSE's. I've been to canada on holiday many times and would love to live there in the future. I was thinking if I studied for a qualifacation in canada, it would be pretty easy to get permanent residency after ive lived there and studied there for a while. I was hoping to do a course on animal care as I am planning on becoming a vet. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience of this and how it went. did anyone go to canada to study and never came back. I have tried to do some research but the immigration website doesnt seem to be working at the moment.

your help in this is appreciated.

At your age, this is going to be next to impossible. If you came here now, you would be too young to even register for courses that are considered post Grade 12 (college level in the UK). You have to be 18 in most cases and would have to live with a family. A vets assistant is the closest "qualification" that you could look at on your way to being a Vet in BC anyway. It is a two year course at most institutions and wastes your time if you are planning on being an actual Vet. Your best bet is to stay put, get your A levels in sciences and then come over here as a student if you have the $$$$ and get an undergraduate science degree, laddering into a DVM. In most provinces you are considered a child until 18; in BC it is 19, believe it or not. No one begins their academic careers before these ages. Good career option, great to hear that you have ambition (that puts you a step above the next person) but it is not realistic for you to try and do this without A level education first. Best of luck.

Where do you get your information? While there are a few universities, colleges, specific courses and/or programs in Canada that have minimum age requirements, most do not. It’s high school diplomas and/or specific courses that matter in terms of admission.

He said he was 16. How many kids do you know who have graduated high school at 16 in Canada? How many have you seen doing Vet Assistant courses at his age? Probably none. How many 16 year olds do you know who live independently over here? How many 16 year olds would even get a look-in to rent a place on their own, whether they were admitted to a collge level or University course or not? In BC, my information is from the CFCSA and the daily grind of 16 year olds trailing into my office who do not qualify for under age income assistance because they have not been living independently for two years. 16 year olds who have yet to graduate, if ever, as the system is designed to keep them in school until they are 18. This kid has the equivalent of Grade 12 at 16 - with his GSCE's - but find me a place anywhere that would take him. In BC, he is still a child and would have to have provision made for him to stay here and study

See above ... he was also married with 4 kids.

Ever wonder how many of the here-today-gone-tomorrow posters are relocation consultants?

I don't know why you're asking me all these questions. It's like you think I've said Manchester_lad can study at a university or college in BC. Clearly I didn’t.
