Default Study permit

Hi all ,

Just another question or 5 .... My hubby hoping to get a TWP for long haul HGV driving and i know i am not able to work for a while , could anyone tell me how long i can not work for please ? Also could i do a college course whilst hubby on TWP ?? Been nursing 15 years now and fancy a change but dont want to waste my skills/knowledge , Been looking at courses in Saskatoon and although i know i have to pay for them which is ok was wondering if i would actually be able to apply for a course with OH having just a TWP ??

Also i have 2 children age 4 just and 10 nearly 11 year old daughter would they have to have a study permit? I know my son won t start until he is 6 well thats what im led to believe if anyone knows different i welcome advice .

sorry if this has already been covered

Thanks again
Debbie

P.s off to finally book my flights been waiting for interview confirmation dates so better find some winter woolies to pack !

Hi You cannot do any studying or work for the first 9 to 12 months, basically you have to wait untill you get your nomination from the province.

Here is how it works...you cannot do any kind of study that will enhance your qualifications on a work permit or a visitor permit. If you get a study permit (because one of your is being sponsored) it can only be for post-grad study and you can't work. Its either one or the other until you become a permenant resident.

I know its a pain, I have gone into it with immigration and basically you either accept it or leave, they see it as cut and dry. Even when you go to get your work permit, there are restrictions on who you can work with. I'm a teacher from the UK and my work permit did not permit me to work with any school age children.

As a truck drivers wife, you are not entitled to work (unless you can manage to get a work permit from the embassy in London (rare)) or study until your nomination is accepted. If you do everything on time you can become landed within 12-18 months...its not that long.

Thank you Vicky ,

Was going to contact you actually re this but hey you got there first . Just about to book flights so fingers crossed we could maybe meet up when Graham and i are in the area. We are flying into Calgary Sunday 18th October and hope to be in Saskatoon Tuesday 21st will then be staying until Friday 24th . Flying visit but its better than nothing especially as we will be coming without the children.

Bit of a shame about the study but hey i will have to be a house wife for a while ! Sounds good to me , I have been in touch with the local Health authority and asked if i could maybe do voluntary work , just to meet people and see how the land lies for future employment.

Many thanks again Vicky look forward to meeting you October

Regards

Debbie

Hi
We have been looking at this for someone.
It seems you can do a study course for 20 hrs
( apparently 20hrs is considered a full time course )
and you can work for 20hrs, a week, but work full time during college breaks, if you apply for the permit.
