Default Steeped tea?

What the heck is it?! Neither the TV advert nor this blurb is making it any clearer for me.

Souvenir, you're excused - it says in the fine print not available in QC or the US.

Hot tea made the way you expect with tea bags steeped in the hot water rather than giving you a cup of hot water and a bag or using mix. Marketing gimmick, that's all.

Thanks, sysclp, That's what I thought! I even went so far as to check my understanding of the word "steeped" in the dictionary and had it confirmed they could only mean tea soaked in water. I was not aware of any other way to prepare tea but I thought I'd just ask here to ensure there wasn't a strange Canadian usage of the word

I thought steeped tea "officially" meant using loose leaves rather than a bag, a bit like Granny used to make?

That's how they explain it in the blurb Biiiiink linked to...
"Over the years, the one thing we’ve learned about making tea is that there’s no improving on tradition. Tim Hortons is proud of making tea using a time honoured tradition – loose tea leaves."

To me, steeped tea was always the tea that had been in the pot for hours, the cold stuff you tip down the sink before you make a fresh pot.
I'm not saying i'm right or wrong, just what it means to me.

That doesn't surprise me. You don't see much tea around here.

Thats right, another word for the same thing depending on where in the Uk you were, and your age, older people tend to use steeped, younger people tend to use stewed

when I was a kid my mum used to say "I'm not drinking that tea, it's steeped" meaning that it had been standing in the pot for too long.
PS. Don't you think that woman in the commercial is so irritating. "steeped outfit honey" Pleeease!

Red Rose ( orange pekoe tea ) loosed leaf tea stewed, timing on machine depends on the strenght of the tea. Prefer the teabag in the cup adding the milk ourselves personally

But who'd go to Timmie's and drink tea when their coffee is the best on the planet?
