I wanted to know what would be the criteria for spousal immigration.
I am from India and if I marry a Canadian citizen, would she have to sponsor me from Canada itself or can she come down here and we get the immigration process done from here ? If so , would there be any difference in the time period ?

Sponsorships are done from Canada. Applications for permanent residence = are made
from outside Canada unless there are humanitarian or = compassionate reasons for an
exemption.
Canadian citizens who sponsor spouses do not have to be in Canada for = the
sponsorship, but must be residing when the visa is issued or before.
Spouses who sponsor residents of India (and a few other countries in the = region)
also follow the special pilot project where all applications are = sent at the same
time (in Canada)
Proper preparation of these applications could see visas issued within = four months.

Dear Mr. Berto
Could you kindly tell me :
How soon should the sponsor be in Canada before the visa is issued and should the sponsor himself have a job ? If not then in what other way can one sponsor ?

Sponsors of spouses must declare their intention to reside permanently = in Canada
with their spouse. They could arrive with or before.
A job in Canada is not a requirement for spousal sponsorships. A job = offer or a job
in Canada would certainly go to show intention to reside = in Canada.
