Spiders!
#1
Following on from my snakes thread a few months ago, thought we should have a spiders thread in order to scare off the non-dedicated who haven't come over yet
Post your best (worst) Canadian spider stories/pics....
Found this bad boy in the basement yesterday, don't think it's poisonous, but I think it's fair to say you wouldn't want it in your bed

Just looked it up...yup....apparently Black Widows are also part of this family.

That was the conclusion we came to as well.... at first the wife shouted me because she'd found a "widow" spider in the basement!
I think it might have been R I C H who's found a real Black Widow out there

We had them when we lived in BC - it's amazing just how scared one quite small spider can make you!

When I worked at the Agricultural College, someone brought in a Black Widow that had been found at Superstore in some grapes (or something, I forget the details). Anyway we kept her for about a month, and she was beautiful (for a spider
) then someone decided she was getting too big and she may be pregnant, so she was dispatched to the freezer
The ones I hate are these huge green things that are all over the garden, they are horrible
, though haven't seen as many this year! Haven't seen as many snakes either, maybe it's the weather?

Ugh ... I am not a great fan of spiders (lived in Mississippi for several years and had some horrid ones there).
Have to say that we have lived in SW Calgary for three years and I have never seen a spider in our house. In fact I think the only insects we have had have been millipedes or whatever they are called ... we get one occasionally in the basement but that's it.
Sorry that's not really a spider story at all is it???

Have to agree, we rarely get spiders in the house which is great
we have had birds, bats and snakes in the house, but not very many spiders

My cat has been catching what I thought were long legged spiders...turns out on a trip down to the basement today to do some washing...we seem to have become a hostel for massive crickets.

You forgot the ruler
How big was it - and how fast did it do 0 - 60 when you tried to grab it

My wife and step daughter are terrified of spiders...even those of the money spider variety/size.
Just as well we hardly see any. I don't think I've seen anything bigger than little fingernail size whether in the garden or house.
Haven't even seen one in the basement...obviously there are some but they must be hiding; perhaps gathering their forces for a major assault.
