Have had several quotes etc but we realise we would like speedy shippers as I notice some of you get your goods pretty quickly and some get them pretty slowly. We have sole use container from North of england and have the following quotes:
Whites- who I am not favouring due to insurance situation and their failure to get back to me with an updated quote.
Anglo pacific who were favorites but again have failed to get back to me since I phoned for an updated quote. They were favorites as of the quoters they were the only one to ship via the east rather than through vancouver. BUT having told me 6-8 weeks in summer they have now revised this to up to 12 weeks so I suspect they now ship to vancouver.
Brittania- liked but agian ship to vancouver which takes longer.
Pickfords are coming round on tuesday.
So I am really after companies and experienced recent shipping times, rather than prices, as I think prices vary according to their company avalaibility etc. Saw Annm got heres in 4 weeks but we are nowhere near an office of their company although I may enquire anyway

We used Whites in Bournemouth (May 2006 - so fairly recent!). They packed us up on 10th May and we unloaded in Calgary on 17 July (would have been a week or so earlier but the moving companies in Calgary were busy busy busy at that time).
At the beginning they discussed when the ships would be leaving Southampton and they planned to pack us up in Poole one week before the ship sailed to optimize shipping times.
The guys from Tippet Richardson were great unloading everything and they could not believe what a good job Whites had done packing everything. Nothing was broken and Whites kept us informed of everything all the way through the process.
All in all I would highly recommend them.
Good luck with the move - J

We used pickfords, for no other reason than that was who our company told us to use.
They were very good at everything other than delivery date, but that was out of their control, ours landed in the east and sat for 3 weeks on a train in red deer due to labour shortages, i think ours took 10 weeks in total.

However, how quickly it arrives depends upon matters outside of any shipper's control, weather, transportation between port of entry and place of unpacking etc.
Whites ship to Montreal I believe so man from Anglo Pacific is talking out of his wotsit

We used Whites and they were very good. They packed our house some time before we actually left the UK but from date we told them we wanted to go to arrival was 3 weeks.

We used GB Liners and the container sailed from Liverpool on 12th July and got to us on 10th August. Most of that time was actually the on-land part from Montreal to Calgary. The packers in the UK were very good and the unpackers at this end were also very good (not Tippet Richardson who a lot of the others use). We had nothing broken.
Incidentally, Whites also told us that they would ship via Vancouver when we got a quote from them.

I used Leatherbarrows (Britannia), Bournemouth to pack and take to the docks, then AJ Campbell to deliver and unload here (arranged by Leatherbarrows). Door to door it took 6 weeks, via Montreal I think. In fact our stuff was with Campbells after 5 weeks, but we had to wait until we moved into our rental house. I had two other quotes. Whites were OK, but very expensive nearly £750 more. Our other quote came from Maidmans, but they gave a very poor impression, didn't seem to care and it was the head honcho that came to see me!
Both companies we used were good (although we have an issue with Leatherbarrows over the packing of our piano - otherwise everything was well packed). I will use AJ Campbell again when we buy a place next year.
Cheers

Ahh you may be able to answer another question then. Did you have to pay extra as they couldn't deliver after the 5 weeks? Thats what I'm trying to square up t- the desire to ship early in case it takes along time against the need to be in the rental when it actually shows up!

Hiya....Glad everything seems to be coming together for you guys.....The ski season is nearly upon us after all!!!
Just wanted to say PLEASE don't use Pickfords!!! They really ran us a merry dance - underestimated everything - including delivery time. They packed sooooo badly that we needed much more space which obviously pushed everything up. I should have listened to my sister who had probs when they moved her family to the U.S......All things considered I wish we had gone with Britannia who were very straight on price and times......
Hope all goes smoothly
