Speeding ticket from Spain
#1
I was in Spain this summer (July/August) and I just got a registered letter in the mail today from the local transportation authority there. It has a picture of my rental car and from what I can figure out a ticket as I was clocked going 115 km/h in a 100 km/h zone (I think it was on a quasi auto pista). From what I can figure out the penalty is supposed to be 100 euros, but they have a discounted rate of 50 euros. The fine is all in Spanish and I've run it through a translate function on the key items.
Does anybody know if these fines have any implications on an Ontario drivers licence and insurance rates. I've had 22 years of no speeding tickets anywhere and I think 1 at fault accident from around 1997. What if I don't pay it..will it catch up to me. Does Spain and Ontario have some sort of reciprocal agreement to get the $.

Two options I suppose - bite the bullet and pay the 50 Euros and it all goes away forever or don't and hope for the best
I`m pretty sure I was caught speeding in Germany in 2011 but never heard a thing and I suspect that their systems would be much more efficient than anything the Spanish would have in place
If ever I decide to return to Germany though I may get a surprise at the airport but I`ll cross that bridge when I get to it

I would pay it. If you go back it Europe at some time in the near future do you want this hanging over you like you like a bad smell? As to the implications to your Canadian driving license I'd say 'there are no implications' and am sure someone will enlighten me if I'm wrong. Over the years my husband, who has fantasies of being a boy racer, has collected speeding tickets in France, Holland and Belgium like a fall of autumn leaves and it's not impacted on his driving license, thankfully. But he always paid up PDQ.

The car rental company will have passed on your details to the police. They know we're you live!!!!!
I suspect they will wait until the unpaid fine fee reaches a few thousand Euro then place the fine into the hands of a collection agency. Maybe 1-2 years down the line be ready for that knock at your door !

Do you know if they can put you in front of a firing squad should you not have a few thousand Euro on your possession that particular day?
