Been driving for 23 years and just got my first speeding ticket.

Very angry with myself for not paying attention to the posted speed limit.

My reason for posting is not for sympathy or an ear bashing, I know I was wrong. The traffic cop was ok, and even commented that the limit was very low for the road.

I have a BC license(BC address) and got a MV146(3) so I believe this will be 3 points.

My question is will ICBC inform the DVLA of these 3 points?

We are moving back to the UK in the summer and I have a UK license registered at our UK address. It is proving difficult to find out if BC has a reciprocal agreement with the UK like most provinces have with the USA.

I know if you are caught in Ontario for example it would apply in New York.

Has anyone had points on a BC license for speeding then moved back to the UK and had the points appear on there UK license.

They won't appear on a UK Licence.

Of course it was, all the speed limits are stupidly low.

They might not appear on a UK licence, but DVLA may ask Canada for a Drivers abstract when they give you your licence back, and they would be on that. i dont know if it will then be noted on your UK abstract, which a Police Officer can ask for directly from DVLA.

maybe give DVLA a call and ask the question, you wouldnt need to give your details.

The OP states he HAS a UK license, so would not have to apply, just perhaps a change of address from the UK address it is registered to, so they wouldn't need to contact Canada in that case.

I had to hand mine in in order to get my Canada one. How did he manage to keep his? That aside, I think that to try to answer insurance questions in the future and try to hide the fact that he does not have a clean licence may invalidate his insurance if it is found out. is that really worth the risk?

What some have done is to request, before they hand in one, a duplicate from the UK, saying they have lost their licence. This means they have two licences, hand one in, keep the other.

I seem to recall others have used a photocopy of their licence and handed that in, or asked for the original back as a keepsake, and sometimes they have obliged with this request.

I suspect it's not entirely legal to do this, as you are meant to be completely surrendering your UK licence, and you can drive on your Canadian licence if you visit the UK, and if you do move back then you'd want to swap your Canadian licence back for a UK one, thus I'm not sure why you'd really want to do this.

Not sure why people moving as PR's to another country would want to have two licences when one will suffice.
Holding two would likely be deemed illegal by one country or another. With just one licence you can hire/drive a car no matter which country's/provinces licence you have so what is the point in having two?
Even so, before moving around the world it's always worth requesting your DVLA driver entitlement/record just in case you need to produce it.

If you need to return permanently to the UK, you can chop in a licence from any province of Canada in the UK at short notice anyway. For UK citizens, with driving history in the UK, DVLA will issue a new UK EU licence based on the entitlement they have on record and not based on the entitlement shown on the Canadian provincial driving licence unless it supersedes what they have on record. What I am trying to say (not very well I might add!) is they will not only issue you with an automatic vehicle only licence if you have previously passed your test in a vehicle with a manual box.

Years back, we swapped our UK EU licences for Portuguese EU licences for similar reasons Canada expect new PR's to do so. Oddly BC (and likely other provinces) will not do a direct swap for a Portuguese EU licence. Before we leave Portugal we are having DVLA swap our Portuguese EU licences for new UK EU licences. DVLA are happy to do this even though we are not resident in the UK (DVLA have been advised as such) but under the circumstances they see it as a reasonable request. They will issue the licences to the original UK address previously used for our UK licences which luckily is still within the family. DVLA are aware that we need to do this so that we can swap for BC licences when required to do so.

Fight it, tick the Early Resolution box and go to court.

The point system in BC is nothing like the point system in the UK. You can rack up as many points as you like in BC and not get banned, you just pay a hefty premium the following year.

You are wrong on the points. You rack up 15-19 points in BC 3-6 month ban. Suggest you take a look at : http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/osmv/share...guidelines.pdf Sec. 4.1

I think it all depends on what driving offence took place. According to this chart you can have up to 50 but it will cost you $24k

Obviously more serious offences would get you banned straight away.
